Blue Sky Balloons operates FAA certified balloons by FAA certified pilots and has been providing hot air balloon rides in the Hudson Valley, NY for over 40 years with a perfect safety record. We fly from the heart of the Hudson valley and are near New York City, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. We offer gift certificates, private rides, and accommodate group bookings.

More than half our flights are gifts or celebrations such as anniversaries, birthdays, or other special occasions such as engagement flights. A great family outdoor adventure. Try man's oldest form of aviation.

Flights are scheduled in the mornings just after sunrise and in the evenings just prior to sunset, We are located only a short drive from NYC and if necessary we can meet you at the metro-north train station. Scheduling is done on a first come, first served basis and so we suggest you schedule early, especially if you have a very specific date in mind. October is our busiest month and early scheduling is definitely necessary then.

Hot Air Balloons are weather sensitive and only fly at sunrise and just prior to sunset, so we have adopted the following reservation procedures:

1. Read our Policies
2. Fill out and send this form.
3. We will email or telephone you to confirm.
4. Approximately 10 hours before your flight we'll call you to confirm that the weather is suitable.

About the Pilot

Bill Hughes, a former Navy Pilot, with over 9,000 hours of flying everything from jets to helicopters, got into ballooning in 1970. He helped Malcolm Forbes make a transcontinental flight across the U.S. in 1973. The FAA designated him a Pilot Examiner and Safety Counselor. Bill has served as "Balloonmeister"* for several major balloon events and continues to do so, with a perfect safety record. He has flown competitively throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Japan, winning numerous events. Is the past Vice president and board member of the Balloon Federation of America.

During the winter months when the weather is rarely suitable for balloon flying, Bill dons his instructor hat and travels the U.S. preparing students for their FAA Pilot Written Examinations. This second business, Liberty Balloon School, has trained over 2,700 pilots in 34 states during the past 29 years.

*Balloonmeister: (noun) The person responsible for all the operational aspects of a balloon event. He insures that it is conducted in accordance with FAA regulations and safety considerations. He combines his knowledge of the flying area with the existing weather to make the fly/no fly decisions for each launch and briefs the pilots accordingly.

Gift Certificates:

Our company only accepts Blue Sky Balloons Balloon Ride Certificates.
We understand that our company may be on other lists published by other nationwide sellers/brokers of balloon ride certificates. It is without our permission and a deception. We are a local company and we sell balloon rides directly to the customer. We believe in nurturing a relationship with you, not your wallet. We are happy to refer you to a local balloon company in areas we do not serve.

Our gift certificates are issued with an expiration date. If you have a gift certificate that may expire before you can use it, contact us regarding an extension. The certificates are transferable but not refundable.

Pricing:

Our rate is $225 per person or $575 for an exclusive flight for two people only. These are our lowest possible rates. We do not offer any discounts for quantity, age, children, etc. We make every effort to provide you with the safest most enjoyable flight at a reasonable price.

Children:

Many people ask what the minimum age is. We have no set policy but we do have plenty of experience, and from that we have a strong recommendation; as precocious as your children may be, rarely do those under seven years old appreciate the experience and they often get quickly bored and detract from the enjoyment of everyone else. This is not like television, with new things happening every ten seconds. If necessary, wait a few years; we'll still be here.

Cancellations:

If we cancel a flight for weather or any reason within our control there are no charges. Because this is a weather-dependent activity rescheduling is sometimes required. No show passengers or cancellations within 2 days prior to the scheduled flight will forfeit any deposit or other forms of payment unless their reserved space can be filled by other passengers.

Flight Time:

Because there are prudent reasons, primarily safety, that the pilot may elect to make the final landing before the scheduled one hour flight duration has elapsed, our policy is to provide a full refund for any flight of less than one half-hour. Once the minimum half-hour is flown no further adjustments will be made. The flight, post flight pack up, and return trip to the farm, will consume 2 to 2 ½ hours from launch time.

Passenger Health:

Our insurance carrier will not allow us to knowingly fly anyone who is pregnant. We have, and will continue to, find a way to accommodate people's disabilities so they can enjoy this adventure. Please openly discuss any physical conditions that you have that might need special arrangements. We must decline a flight to anyone who we believe cannot safely accomplish it. Federal law prohibits us from flying anyone who is intoxicated so reserve the partying until after the flight.

Release of liability and assumption of risk agreement:

An insurance industry wide policy, not related to our history or the safety of balloon flying in general requires us to get a signed waiver from each passenger. We have operated in a safe and responsible manner for many years and through no personal actions or omissions on our part must comply with this requirement. Below is a copy of the agreement you will be required to sign prior to a flight.
